Gerald Hill discussed the functions of a Project Management Office (PMO). He listed 20 functions along 5 key functional areas. This ultimately helps deliver value from a PMO that goes beyond just efficient and timely delivery. The 2004 Hackett’s Book of Numbers (12th edition) said that the organizations which used a permanent PMO to manage their IT projects (50% of all the organizations studied) saw their projects achieved on-time delivery which was within budget and achieved their objectives 30% more that those organizations which did not have a PMO.
